If Bowling Green’s Vid Monster Productions story were turned into one of those music videos the company is known to produce, you might expect the pace to slow down dramatically in the last pandemic year. .

A night out for its new seat has been delayed for a year by the coronavirus pandemic, but Vid Monster hasn’t missed a beat.

In fact, the video production company started in 2016 by a few students from Western Kentucky University has picked up the pace since moving in March 2020 to the former BG OnStage office and studio at Chestnut Street and East Seventh Avenue.

Although its staff were forced to work almost entirely from home during the pandemic, the growth of the business has been little disrupted, said Sam Kirby, owner and founder of Vid Monster.

“We invested around $ 100,000 in the studio and computer equipment last year,” he said. “We have invested in improving the product we deliver to customers, and it has paid off.”

Specifically, the studio and equipment enhanced the capabilities and status of a business that Kirby and his original business partner Will Berry started with little money and with just two clients.

“We now have the capacity and the equipment to work at a level that the big brands have,” Kirby said. “It has given us more confidence in what we are doing.”

That confidence translated into a wider range of offerings, going beyond the wedding videos and commercials Kirby initially produced as he pursued his childhood dream of becoming a YouTube star.

Kirby, 26, now describes the company as a full-service content production company specializing in video, photo, graphic design and live streaming.

This growth in scope of work led to growth in customer base, which transformed the business Kirby and Berry founded in cramped quarters on the second floor of downtown Bowling Green.

Vid Monster now has nine full-time employees, one part-time and the ability to hire freelancers based on workload.

And that workload can be demanding, even during a pandemic.

If anything, the COVID-19 social distancing requirements have helped Vid Monster understand customers who were looking to host meetings remotely and broadcast their messages digitally.

“The live broadcast has really helped us during COVID,” Kirby said. “Much of our design, photo and video work is shared digitally as targeted ads. Many of our clients focus on digital content. “

Such work is in the wheelhouse of Vid Monster, leading to contracts with clients far beyond its original Bowling Green-based clientele.

This week again, Kirby and his team are shooting videos for clients in Indiana and the Cincinnati area. Vid Monster also worked for the Motorsports Hall of Fame in Daytona Beach, Florida.

“We’re trying to diversify,” Kirby said. “We want to keep doing more of what we are already doing and develop that.”

Fittingly, given its roots, Vid Monster will show off its not-so-new quarters and high-end gear on Friday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce that Kirby had originally hoped to host the last summer.

Joining the chamber was one of the first things Vid Monster did as a startup.

“Especially over the past two years, the chamber has been useful,” Kirby said. “It was a good investment that allowed for good networking.”
